The wind transmitter is intended for the measurement of wind power system capacity characteristics, location assessment, and the acquisition of the horizontal component of wind speed in the fields of meteorology and environmental measuring technology. Dynamic behavior with high turbulence intensity, less over speeding, and low beginning values are specified and tuned.
The output contains a digital signal that represents the measurement value. It can be sent to process control systems, data loggers, display instruments, recording instruments, and data loggers. The instrument may be supplied with optional electrically controlled heating for winter operation, which ensures that the ball bearings spin smoothly and keeps the shaft and slot from freezing up.
The wind spins a low-inertia 3-cup star made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. The rotation is optically scanned and converted into a square wave signal. The frequency of this signal is proportional to the number of rotations. Depending on the supply voltage, the output signal ranges between the maximal output voltage and ground or a potential (life zero), lifted by approximately 1.2V. The supply of the electronics can be done with a DC voltage of 3.3 V up to 48 V at a very low current consumption. An AC or DC voltage of 24 volts is intended for the separate supply of the optional heating. In all probability, the heating guarantees a trouble-free function of the wind transmitter First Class even under extreme meteorological icing conditions.
The outer parts of the instrument are made of corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum. Highly effective labyrinth gaskets and O-rings protect the sensitive parts inside the instrument against humidity and dust. The instrument is mounted on a mast tube, and the electrical plug connector is located in the transmitter shaft.
