BTD-350 Thunderstorm Detector

Make: Biral Model: BTD-350

Key Highlights

*The BTD-350 Thunderstorm Detector is a standalone sensor that reliably detects the presence of all forms of lightning to a range of 83km. *Measurand: Lightning strikes (distance, intensity, and frequency) *Sensor Type: Electromagnetic field or lightning detection sensor *Signal Output: Visual (LEDs), Audible (alarm), Data output (optional) *Supplied With: Sensor(s), Display unit, Mounting hardware, Power supply, User manual

Category: Thunderstorm / Lightning Detectors

The unique quasi electrostatic operating principle gives the detector a very low false alarm rate and the ability to warn of the risk of overhead lightning.

The ability to reliably detect and range cloud-to-cloud lightning, which is typically much more common than cloud-to-ground strikes, makes the BTD-350 much more sensitive to the presence of storms compared to devices that rely on radio detection. The electrostatic operating principle allows the sensor to warn of the risk of overhead lightning before the first discharge occurs.

Virtually maintenance free in operation, the BTD-350 can either interface directly to an integrated system or be operated using the supplied PC compatible display and logging software. The optional warning relay module allows the sensor to automatically sound alarms whenever a storm approaches.

  • Warns of overhead lightning risk even before the first lightning discharge

  • Highly immune to radio interference which is the major cause of false alarms in traditional standalone detectors

  • 83km (45 NM) detection range exceeds the US FAA requirements

  • Detects cloud-to-ground and as well as weaker but more common cloud-to-cloud lightning

  • Detects charged precipitation

  • Meets FAA performance requirements for aerodrome use

  • Provides information for enhanced CAP437 reporting of thunderstorms

  • Developed for  both on and offshore

  • Certified for marine operation for salt spray, vibration and EMC

  • Meets EN50536:2011+A1:2012 requirments for a Class 1 detector

  • Meets IEC 62793 performance requirements for a Class A detector
