The ALS Background Luminance and Ambient Light Sensor is a professional photometric instrument developed for accurate measurement of background luminance in accordance with ICAO standards. Designed specifically for airport lighting applications, it converts photometric luminance (cd/m²) into standard analog or digital output signals for continuous monitoring and control.
Equipped with a precision silicon photodiode and a spectral response closely matching the photopic response curve, the ALS delivers reliable luminance measurements over a range of 2 to 40,000 cd/m². The sensor features a 6° field of view as specified by ICAO, ensuring accurate background brightness measurement for runway and airfield lighting systems. An optional heated version allows dependable operation in harsh weather conditions down to -50°C.
Housed in a rugged IP66-rated painted metal enclosure, the ALS is built for continuous outdoor operation. It supports analog current, voltage, and RS485 ModBus communication for seamless integration with airport lighting control systems, weather stations, SCADA platforms, and environmental monitoring networks.
